Madison Square Garden launches 'Thank You, NYPD' campaign with private concert

Madison Square Garden Entertainment and MSG Sports announced the "Thank You, NYPD" campaign on February 21, 2024, to express appreciation for the New York City Police Department.[1][2]

The campaign features a private concert at Madison Square Garden on March 28, 2024, open exclusively to NYPD uniformed officers, civilian staff members and their families.[1][2]

Confirmed performers include singers Cyndi Lauper and John Fogerty, rapper Fat Joe—a supporter of the New York Knicks—and comedians Chris Distefano and Sam Morril.[1][2]

The arena will host the event rent-free, with production and operating costs covered by donations.[1][2]

Cyndi Lauper, a two-time Grammy Award-winning singer, said in a statement: "I am happy to show my appreciation for the brave members of the NYPD by performing at this MSG event. We are all New Yorkers, and the NYPD is such an important part of our community."[1]

Jim Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of MSG Entertainment and MSG Sports, and governor of the New York Knicks on the NBA Board of Governors, said the event is a sincere show of gratitude.[1][2] "Cries of ‘defund the police’ and other negative statements do not reflect the true feelings of New Yorkers," Dolan added.[1]

Madison Square Garden encouraged New York residents to submit personal "thank you" videos through a dedicated website.[1][2]

Madison Square Garden is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Midtown Manhattan, home to the NBA's New York Knicks and the NHL's New York Rangers.[3]
