Tiger Woods arrested for DUI after car crash in Florida, sheriff says

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said on Friday, March 27, 2026, that Tiger Woods was arrested for driving under the influence after his vehicle collided with another car at a high rate of speed in Jupiter Island, Florida, causing his car to roll over onto the driver's side. Woods, who lives in Jupiter Island, exited the vehicle by crawling out the passenger side. No one was injured in the incident.[1]

Budensiek said at a press conference that DUI investigators observed signs of impairment during roadside tests, accounting for Woods' prior injuries and surgeries. A breath test registered triple zeros for alcohol. Woods refused a urine test and was charged with misdemeanor counts of DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

"This could've been a lot worse," Budensiek noted.

Woods, a 15-time major champion including five Masters titles and 82-time PGA Tour winner from the United States, has a history of driving incidents.[2] In May 2017, he was arrested for DUI in neighboring Palm Beach County, Florida, after being found asleep at the wheel. A breath test was negative for alcohol, but toxicology revealed prescription painkillers including Vicodin and Dilaudid; charges were dropped after he entered a diversion program.[3][4]

On February 23, 2021, Woods suffered serious leg injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, while driving a rental SUV. He underwent multiple surgeries and was sidelined for over a year.[5]

Woods has competed sparingly in recent years due to injuries, including back surgeries and ankle fusion in 2023. He played five PGA Tour events in 2024, withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational and finishing last at the Masters.[2] He co-founded the TGL indoor golf league, captaining the Jupiter Links team.[6]
