Tigers' Parker Meadows hospitalized after frightening head-on collision with teammate Riley Greene
Tigers' Meadows concussed in outfield crash with Greene
Detroit Tigers center fielder Parker Meadows suffered a concussion and spent the night in a hospital after colliding head-on with teammate Riley Greene in left-center field. The crash occurred in the eighth inning of Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis. Meadows, bloodied from the mouth, lay on the ground briefly before medical staff and manager A.J. Hinch helped him off the field on a cart.
Greene caught a shallow fly ball off the bat of Twins designated hitter Josh Bell, who entered the inning with a home run and two singles. The impact knocked off both players' caps. "It's a terrible feeling. I still feel terrible," Greene said afterward. "He hit my head. I don't know where I hit him, to be honest, but I just really hope he's OK."
Meadows, who has started 11 of Detroit's 13 games this season, went 0 for 3 and owns a .250 average with two extra-base hits. Hinch said, "We’re going to get him checked out for everything, but this one worries me."
MLB.com reported Meadows would remain hospitalized overnight for observation.
