Philadelphia Eagles acquire Andy Dalton from Carolina Panthers for seventh-round draft pick

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired veteran quarterback Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, according to reports.[1][2]

Dalton, who turns 38 in October 2025, spent the 2024 NFL season with the Panthers after signing as a free agent in March 2024. He started five games from Weeks 6 to 10, posting a 1-4 record with 1,106 passing yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions.[3][4]

The Panthers benched first-year head coach Dave Canales turned to Dalton after starting quarterback Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, struggled through a 1-4 start.[4][5]

Dalton previously started for nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2011 to 2019, recording a 74-62-2 regular-season mark. He led Cincinnati to five consecutive playoff appearances from 2011 to 2015 but went 0-5 in postseason games.[6][7]

Traded to the Dallas Cowboys in October 2020 shortly after the Bengals selected Joe Burrow No. 1 overall, Dalton later started six games for the Chicago Bears in 2021 (1-5 record) and four games for the New Orleans Saints in 2022 (1-3 record).[6][7]

The addition gives the Eagles a seasoned backup option behind starter Jalen Hurts, who has led the team since 2020.[8]
